Famous Residents Tweed Alma Vander Wey Alma Vander Wey is a graduate of the Classical Animation Program of Sheridan College, has studied Graphics and Life Drawing at Loyalist College and has taught art classes. Her art has been displayed at various galleries and at many shows including The Cobourg Art Show, Bon Echo Show and Hoselton’s Art Show in Colborne, home of Hoselton’s Sculpture. Alma’s art has a realism and unique 3-D quality that sets her work apart and gives you a whole new way of seeing things. It is not uncommon at shows to see people touch the paintings and then check behind the canvas. Her paintings allow us to sense the textures, vivid colours and life force inherent in the world all around us. Alma uses, with ease, a variety of media including conté, watercolours, pencils, oil and acrylic and she successfully operated her own private art gallery at one point. Alma finds inspiration everywhere and finds the ordinary quite extraordinary. Alma Vander Wey is a member of the Quinte arts Council and lives on a farm with her family in the Tweed area. Sue Vander Wey Illustrator Sue Vander Wey has lived in the Tweed area since 1975, having moved there after art studies in Toronto and college in the United States. Originally from the outskirts of Chicago, she now lives with her daughter Emily on a farm that belonged to her late husband Joe and his family before him. Art has always been part of her life. These days she works mostly with soft-pastel “painting” or black-and-white drawing, always with the wish to express the loveliness of the passing moment Baden Vance Baden Vance was born to Burt and Beryl Vance and raised in the village of Tweed, Ontario. He was educated at the Consolidated School, Tweed High School and Queen’s University. After sojourns away, he returned to his hometown in 1985 with his wife Penny and their two sons, Zachary and Peter. He is a co-owner of Heritage Stonemasonry, specialists in brick and stone restoration. He helped produce and publish Them Were The Days, a popular 1974 compilation of interviews with many of the Tweed area’s elderly residents of the time. He sees story-telling in all its arts as our one true inheritance, available – "vital, even," he would add – to each of one us: humankind’s ancient means of discovering truth where we encounter confusion or fear, apathy or hatred – discovering it and, in beginning to show it to those in the community around us, gladly watching it transform into treasure for all to share, and be relieved by. If you know a Famous Resident from Tweed we've missed Contact Us we'll add them as soon as possible
